I frequently observe how one small action, taken again and again, over time leads to huge results. Consistently and steadily, bit by bit, the nest was built. One grain, then another and another and another and another and another and another and another. It struck me that this is how the ants had built this nest over the past week. Over and over, this tiny worker and many of her sisters removed dirt from the nest. Then it went back down the tunnel, picked up another piece and carried it to the top. A worker picked up a grain of dirt and carried it up the tunnel to the top. I observed that some of the workers were still busy constructing the nest. What a difference – I was thrilled! There were chambers and tunnels and ants scurrying about. I replaced the paper and waited longer.Īfter a week had passed, I again removed the black paper. Nothing discernible had happened although the ants were now underground.
I covered the jar with black construction paper to keep out the light.
